‘Auto Design Award’ comes into spotlight with its splendid judges

[Kim, Song-Yi] The international automobile design competition, ‘Auto Design Award 2016’ comes into the spotlight with its splendid judges.

From April 1, entrants are going to submit their works for Auto Design Award 2016, which targets anyone interested in car design, including students from worldwide elementary schools, middle and high schools, universities, graduate schools, and even the public.

Especially, judges of Auto Design Award 2016 consist of professional designers, car experts, and professors, who are going to select winners of Auto Design Award 2016 based on their various experiences and professional careers.

Dr. John(Young-ill) Kim who served as a chief designer and was a former president of design department of Hyundai Motors, is appointed as the head of judging panel of Auto Design Award.

Also, Joo-wan Sung, a chief designer and general manager of Renault Design Asia, Keun-yeol Lee, a team manager of prior&exterior design team of Ssangyong Motors, Jung-yong Lee, a CEO of Saean Motors, Tae-sun Yoon, a marketing insight managing director from Consumer Insight, Eun-tae Kim, a general secretary and executive director from The Korean Society of Automotive Engineers will take charge of examiners.

From the academic world, Chul-ho Kim, a professor in the department of automobile engineering of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Sang Koo, a professor in the department of automobile transportation design of Kookmin University, Jong-min Cha, a professor in the department of transportation design of Hongik University, and Bum-suk Lim, a professor of Art Center College of Design(ACCD), take charge of judges.

Dr. John(Young-ill) Kim, the head of judging panel of Auto Design Award, holds an Industrial Designer of Product Design Bachelor and master degree and PhD course at Wuppertal University, Germany, and a PhD in Design from Kook-Min University, Seoul, Korea. He later served as Chief Designer at Ssangyong Motor Company in Korea designing the PCs ,SUVs and numerous commercial vehicles and concept vehicles before joining the Hyundai Motor Group in 1995.

From 1995 through 2007, Dr. Kim held various positions at Hyundai Motor Group, including Chief Designer at Hyundai Precision, Chief Designer & Senior Vice President at Hyundai & Kia Design Center, and Executive Vice President in Marketing for Brand & Design Differentiation in Hyundai and Kia Motors. From 2007 through March 2009, Dr. Kim was CEO and President of Innocean Corp., a leading Marketing Communication Company of the Hyundai Kia Group

Joo-wan Sung, a chief designer and general manager of Renault Design Asia, designed SM7 concept, SM7, SM6(Talisman), and next-generation QM5 under Renault-Samsung umbrella after graduating from Art Center College of Design(ACCD), America.

Keun-yeol Lee, a team manager of prior&exterior design team of Ssangyong Motors, holds an automobile design bachelor degree at CREAPOLE-ESDI Paris.

Jung-yong Lee, the CEO of Saean Motors, holds an industrial design engineering master degree at RMIT, and Phd degree at UNSW. He developed over 20 units of high-speed electric cars, and is an applicant of over 72 patents regarding electric vehicles.

Eun-tae Kim, a general secretary and executive director from The Korean Society of Automotive, holds a civil engineering bachelor degree at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea, and industrial science master degree at Dongguk University in Seoul. He was also a consultant of Busan ‘International Motor Show(BIMOS)2007’ and ‘Incheon International Autoparts & Accessories Show2009(ICAA Show)’.

Tae-sun Yoon, a marketing insight managing director from Consumer Insight, graduated from the department of economics at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He has built his career at research field for more than 23 years and at car research field for more than 20 years.

Chul-ho Kim, a professor in the department of automobile engineering of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, is recognized as one of the top aero dynamics experts in Korea. He holds engineering Phd degree at UNSW, and also served as an emeritus professor at Sydney University, Australia and a vice president of Korea Association of Auto Technicians(KAAT).

Sang Koo, a professor in the department of automobile transportation design of Kookmin University, holds an industrial arts bachelor degree at Seoul National University, industrial arts master degree at Hongik University graduate school, and Phd degree of design at Seoul National University. He also served as a designer at Kia Motors.

Jong-min Cha, a professor in the department of transportation design of Hongik University, graduated from the department of industrial design at Hongik University, and he holds an master degree of product design at Hongik Universty graduate shool. He also majored in automobile design at Royal College of Art, London. He also served as a head of Hyundai design center, and managed GrandeurXG, EF Sonata designs.

Bum-suk Lim, a professor of Art Center College of Design(ACCD), is famous for the very first Korean professor of ACCD. He designed Honda’s future concept car at Advanced Studio, and participated as a consult for numerous brands to develop new cars.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kim, the head of judging panel of Auto Design Award, said “Auto Design Award is for anyone interested in car design. Winners will be chosen based on creativity, objectivity, and degree of completion.”
