Jeep′s Renegade, a rebirth of the design in 1946

[Kim, Song-Yi] Jeep recently has shown some models with reinterpreting its original brand design identity. Jeep Cherokee, which can be seemed as a European SUV with Jeep’s identity, Jeep Renegade, while, can be seen as a model that redefines Jeep’s identity through reflecting the brand history with various details.

Currently, Wrangler is the one who sticks to Jeep’s original design. Recently unveiled off-road models all follows the 5-door wagon-styled SUV type, Jeep Wrangler, on the contrary, keeps itself to its open body-typed frame. Especially, over overfender differentiated with the body, the door hinge located outside of the body panel, and the link design that fixes the bonnet are Jeep’s brand characteristics.

Fiat Group, Jeep’s parent company, has successfully reinterpreted traditional design through introducing Cinquecento. Based on the experience, Renegade has reflected Willys’ design identity. Its grille, head lamps, wheel arch, rear lamps, and the black finishing materials emphasize off-roader image well.

The seven-slot front grille is one of the representative designs introduced by Jeep. The round shaped head lamp is commonly used for early halogen lamp. The rectangle shaped wheel arch is designed to reduce interfere on the off-road as well as to represent some aggressive and strong images.

For the rear lamps, ‘X’ furrow is presented, that has been shown from the ‘Jerry can’, a symbol of original Jeep. Sun roof can be completely disported, so it can make some similar look with Wrangler. Based on such features, Renegade eventually becomes a bridge between the past and the present.
