Chevrolet Introduces Authentic Small SUV Trax Diesel

[Kim, Ji-Won] Chevrolet today began taking pre-orders for the newest addition to the Trax model lineup, Trax Diesel which is fun to drive and fuel efficient.

Trax Diesel is powered by a premium 1.6L turbo-diesel engine from Germany and an optimized Gen3 six-speed automatic transmission. It provides segment leading performance and excellent handling through precise steering, a stiff structure and a refined suspension.

“Trax has opened and is leading the small SUV segment in the Korean market,” said GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha. “It will set a new standard for the small SUV in terms of great SUV power, dynamic design and unmatched vehicle safety.”

Manufactured in Germany, the premium diesel engine embraces premium German precision engineering to provide European drive feel and performance. And the1.6 CDTI engine is known as “whisper diesel” in Europe as a result of sound engineering and fine-tuning.

The new engine meets Euro 6 emssion regulation and delivers a segment-leading 135 horsepower and 32.8kg.m of torque which is equivalent to ordinary 2.0L diesel engines.

The new six-speed automatic transmission is engineered to perfectly match the 1.6L CDTI engine to maximize performance and provide smooth drive feel. The powertrain provides combined fuel efficiency of 14.7km/L, city fuel efficiency of 13.5 km/L and highway fuel efficiency of 16.4 km/L.

The Trax Diesel inherits its segment-best safety, interior flexibility, European ride and handling from the original Trax 1.4 Turbo.

Measuring 4,245 mm in length and with a height of 1,670 mm, Trax has a spacious interior that can comfortably accommodate five adults. In addition to a 60/40 split rear seat, Trax boasts a front passenger seat that can fold flat. Up to eight seating combinations are possible. This makes Trax ideal for outdoor activities as well as urban driving.

Safety has been maximized in the Trax through a sturdy body structure, 66 percent of which is made of high-strength steel. The Trax comes with six driver, passenger and side curtain air bags as standard, while its front bumper, hood and breakable-type windshield wipers are designed in pursuit of protection for pedestrians.

Chevrolet Trax has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the United States and received the top five-star rating from the Korean New Car Assessment Program (KNCAP),
